DFW Fiberfest 2020 Exclusive
Hello Fiber Friends,
Chicken Coop Dyeworks has been fairly silent since the Covid-19 pandemic hit our shores. Like many of you, we have had to adjust to the new normal, working remotely and hunkering down in our homes to help stop the spread of this awful virus. Getting set up to work from home and attending to pressing deadlines from that 9-5 have made it nearly impossible for me to attend to Chicken Coop business (other than making sure the chickens and sheep got fed, that is). We have now gotten into a routine that reflects the new normal and I am now able to devote time to my favorite pastime – Chicken Coop Dyeworks! I know many of you rely on knitting and crocheting to help alleviate any anxiety you may be feeling in these trying times. We are here to help you do that.
First of all, I want you to know that we have your health in our hearts. I live on a bit of acreage outside of Dallas on the edge of the county. We have been sheltering in place here for 2 weeks. We don’t come in contact with a lot of people out here unless we make the effort to go see folks or they make the effort to come see us. Everyone around here has been staying in so we haven’t had visitors. As to yarn shipments, I have arranged pick up of orders via the U.S. Postal Service at my front door. I wipe down the outside of the mailers with antiseptic wipes and spray the interior with Lysol. I wrap yarn in tissue paper (porous) and include a lavender sachet (because it smells good). I place the yarn in a small plastic bag that has also been sprayed, to stick in the mailer. These small plastic bags were bought in bulk over a year ago and are packaged in groups of 50 (I have several thousand). The bags are only opened to insert yarn. I also regularly use gloves in dyeing and have been using them to pack yarn as well. Note: these gloves are good for food handling, not for surgical use.
Over the coming week, I will be uploading more inventory and offering even more sales as we head into what would have been Fiber Fest Weekend. Here is a preview of the current sales:
