The dog-days of summer are here! Most of the country has been suffering with record high temperatures and some parts have suffered with flooding, high temperatures and high humidity. Here in Texas, we have seen little rain as the temperatures have soared over 100 degrees for nearly 2 months straight. You know it’s hot when 98 degrees feels cool!
Many people have devised ways to survive the heatwave. Most ways include air conditioning and staying hydrated. What better way to stay hydrated than with a good summertime drink or with a nice slice of watermelon? WATERMELON! That is the theme of this box.
This box is unique because it includes 2 different weights of yarn, although both are the same fiber content. The heavier yarn represents the watermelon rind and forms the “spine” of this pattern. The lighter yarn, the fingering weight, forms the “fruit” of the pattern. The pattern is extremely unique from a new-to-me designer. This designer has over 30 years of experience in design and has a few knitting patterns available. Now that she has retired from her day job, she is delving into her knitting design passions. I can’t wait! In fact, I plan to use another of her designs in my Kwanzaa Box. This pattern is geared to an intermediate knitter. An advanced knitter will love the challenge of this pattern.
This kit includes:
- 1 skein of fingering weight yarn in my Foghorn base
- 1 skein of DK weight yarn in my Fowl base
- 1 project bag
- The Ravelry code to the pattern*
- PLUS: An Additional Pattern that can be used with this yarn*
- Knitting and Crocheting notions
- Recipe card for a summertime watermelon cooler that is alcoholic and one that is non-alcoholic

*I know that some of you may have photosensitivity issues with the Ravelry site. Please make a note on your order if this is the case, and I will work with the designer to supply you with a printed copy of the pattern.
