Description
This year’s Quarterly Box theme is Happy Hour!!! We can all use a little fun in our lives as we continue the ongoing battle against COVID. What better way than to join up with our friends in fibery fun along with some fun drinks, both adult and non-alcoholic, to sip while we knit, crochet, weave and chat with friends. With this in mind, the first quarter of 2022 box theme is Sangria!
Recipes for sangria vary wildly, even in Spain. Traditionally sangria may be mixed with local fruits such as peaches, nectarines, oranges, berries, apples, pears, pineapples, and lime and sweetened with sugar and orange juice. Rioja, Spanish red wine, is traditional. Some sangria recipes, in addition to wine and fruit, feature additional ingredients, such as brandy, sparkling water, or flavored liqueurs. Sangria Blanca (sangria with white wine) is a more recent innovation. For sangria blanca, a dry white wine is recommended. Ponche de Sangria is a variation for children, often for birthday parties. Oranges, peaches, and other sugary fruits are combined with berries, grapes, or food coloring in order to create the coloration of sangria. A soft drink, such as 7-up or Sprite typically replaces the wine.
A good sangria is made with many fruits to enhance the flavor of the wine. Therefore, this box contains the following items:
- Six 50 gram skeins of fingering weight yarn (230 yds each, 75/25 SW Merino/Nylon) dyed to correspond to fruits that are found in Sangria
- A lovely pattern for the perfect wrap to make with these yarns
- A lovely project bag that definitely fits the theme!
- Some wine glass charms that can double as progress keepers – of your knitting pattern or of your imbibing (LOL)
- A recipe for DIY Sangria, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic
- A recipe for the Sangria cake
Like Sangria, the “flavor” of this box is bright, robust, and cheerful. The yarns in this box are bright tonals and fully saturated. I’m hoping you have loads of fun with this box!
